Bernice Mleczko

Bernice "Babe" Mleczko, age 81, of Dunkirk passed away peacefully Monday, March 19, 2018 at her home with her loving daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughters by her side. She was born on May 16, 1936 in Scranton, PA to the late Alexander and Genevieve Toczylowski Galka.

Moving from New Jersey in 1971, Bernice and her late husband operated Flowers by Anthony until his retirement. For 29 years, she was a teacher at St. Hyacinth's School.

She was a member of Blessed Mary Angela Parish-St. Hyacinth's Church, where she would help decorate the church for various events. Her memberships included the Fatima Society, as well as serving as President and Vice President of the Mothers Club.

Surviving are daughter and loving caregiver, Karla (Joseph) Strefeler of Dunkirk; her son, Keith Mleczko of Buffalo; two granddaughters, Rylee and Emersyn Strefeler, both of Dunkirk; her sister, Rose Alfano of Pocono, PA; and two brothers, George Galka of Pennsylvania and Frank Galka of New Jersey. She was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews; as well as her personal caregiver, Nancy Ortiz. She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony "Tony" Mleczko; her parents; and a sister, Arlene Taggart.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 22 at 9:15 AM from the Newman Funeral Home Inc. and at 10:00 AM at Blessed Mary Angela Parish-St. Hyacinth's Church, with the Rev. Jan Trela officiating. Interment will follow in St. Hyacinth's Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home from 3:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 21.
