Denney L. Wright, age 88, of Fredonia passed away Wednesday morning, March 14, 2018 after a short illness. He was born July 6, 1929 in Jamestown, the son of the late Donald and Orrie Greenman Wright.
Denney was a retired heavy equipment operator for the New York State Department of Transportation. He previously worked for Al Venn Construction, Fredonia Seed Company, and Huntley Manufacturing.
Mr. Wright was a member of the Brocton Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, a Sunday school teacher, and sang in the church choir. His memberships also included the NRA and the Christian Motorcycle Association. He enjoyed playing many musical instruments, making maple syrup, whittling of wood, hunting, camping, and traveling with his wife.
Surviving are two sons, Philip (Kathleen) Wright and Nathan (Kathy) Wright, both of Fredonia; and three daughters, Peggy (Greg) Meadows of Silver Creek, Nancy (Greg) Schmidt of Urbandale, IA and Alice (Ron) Cunningham of Portland. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson. He was predeceased by his wife, Audrey Colt Wright; his daughter-in-law, Jane Mawhir Wright; his parents; and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 24 at 11 a.m. from the Brocton Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Morrison officiating. Interment will follow in Webster Street Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to call from 9-11 a.m. prior to the service.
