Darla Winder Jakubiec

Darla Winder Jakubiec, formerly of Dunkirk, passed away to be with her Lord on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at her daughter's home in Kansas.

Darla was born on September 7, 1951 to the late Robert Winder and Lucy Winder, who survives her.

Graduating with the Class of 1969 from Dunkirk High, Darla furthered her education attending Fredonia State, Canisius, and Buffalo State, receiving her Master's Degree in Education. When her daughter became deaf, Darla attended Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., receiving another Master's Degree in Special Education and Sign Language. She taught at St. Mary's School of Deaf in Buffalo for many years.

After living in the Sheridan/Angola area and after her divorce, Darla and her children relocated to Dallas, TX to teach autistic students and Special Education. She also taught at the college level in Missouri before her retirement.

Darla is survived by her mother, Lucy Winder of Dunkirk; her children David Jakubiec and his wife of San Antonio, TX, and Pamela Jakubiec Rougeau and her fiance Marvin; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Robin) Winder, William (Sharon) Winder, Richard (Tammy) Winder and Robert (Shelia) Mazurek of Dunkirk; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
