Dick was born February 13, 1939 in Cherry Creek, a son of the late Otto and Marjorie Howard Ulrich, in the home of his grandparents. He was a graduate of No. 10 School in Dunkirk.
Dick was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving with the SEABEES from 1957-59 aboard the USS Gen. H.W. Butner T-AP-113 and in the Active Reserves through 1965.
He was a lifelong over-the-road truck driver, starting with Kraft in Dunkirk, various companies, and retiring from Consolidated Freightways as a member of Teamsters Local 449. He always looked forward to hauling triples (Kites) to the west coast. Dick was proud of his millions of miles of accident-free driving awards and driving children in his truck for the Share a Dream program.
Dick was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3238 in Camden, DE and Walter L. Fox, American Legion Post 0002 in Dover, DE.
After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and his lifelong passion of farming, haying in the fields, riding horses, riding his Harley-Davidson, telling stories and sitting with his sidekick, Teeny. Dick loved helping others, never expecting anything in return.
