Virginia M. "Ginny" Valvo, 84, of Fredonia died Thursday afternoon, September 7, 2017 at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk, following a lengthy illness. She was born July 26, 1933 in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late James and Virginia (Porpiglia) Corsoro.
A lifelong Dunkirk Fredonia resident, Ginny was a graduate of Dunkirk High School, Class of 1951. She had been employed as a teacher's aide at BOCES in Fredonia for 33 years. A parishioner of Holy Trinity Church, she also was a member of the American Legion Post 62 and a former member Shorewood County Club.
Ginny enjoyed working in her yard, volunteering at Holy Trinity, helping others in need, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren who were the joy of her life. She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by her family and all those who knew her.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy (Dean) Ringler of Fredonia; one son, Joseph (Tami) Valvo of Akron, OH; one sister, Dorothy Godina of Dunkirk and her daughter, Carol Oliveira; four grandchildren, Joseph Valvo, Jamie Valvo, Michael Ringler and Jennifer Ringler; one great-granddaughter, Gianna Zuppo; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers, Dominick, Anthony, Joseph, Philip, George, Frank, and Samuel Corsoro; and two sisters, Frances Oddo and Josephine Rossotto.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Monday, September 11 at 10:00 AM in Holy Trinity Church. Calling hours will be held Sunday, September 10 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
