Florence S. McMahon

Florence S. "Steve" McMahon, age 87, of Buffalo, formerly of Bliss St., Westfield, died Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the home of her daughter in Buffalo, with family by her side.

"Steve" was born on April 6, 1930 in Olean, the daughter of the late Fred W. and Rose (Gerringer) Stephan. She was raised in Allegany and was a 1947 graduate of Allegany High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Buffalo School of Pharmacy. She had been a Westfield resident most all her life, moving to Westfield in 1952.

Mrs. McMahon's main love was for her family; she was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the former St. James Major Roman Catholic Church (now St. Dominic) and a life member of the Parish Altar and Rosary Society. She volunteered at the Patterson Library, the Westfield Community Kitchen, and at the Westfield Visitors Booth at the pier in Barcelona.

She is survived by her five sons, Thomas (Bonnie) McMahon of Harrisburg, PA, James McMahon of Dansville, John (Melissa Emke-Gehling) McMahon of Westfield, Joseph (Gail Steinhart) McMahon of Ithaca and Patrick (Helene) McMahon of Buffalo; as well as three of her daughters, Christine (Darryl) Duink of Hamburg, Susan (Brian) Schuldeis of Royal Oak, MI and Janet McMahon of Buffalo. She is further survived by her one sister, Bernice Baumgartner of Bridgeville, PA; her-son-in-law, Frank Carollo of St. Michaels, MD; and her 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William S. McMahon, whom she married on September 20, 1952 and who died on February 2, 2008; by her daughter, Mary Ellen Carollo; her brother, John Stephan; and three sisters, Clara Gembar, Ruth McArdle and Mary Stephan.

Friends may call on Friday, July 21 at the Mason Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, July 22 at 11 a.m. at St. Dominic RC Church, 15 Union Street, Westfield, with Fr. Joseph Gullo officiating. Burial will be private in St. James Cemetery.
