Rose Marie Harrington VonVolen

Rose Marie Harrington VonVolen, 80, of Mayville died Thursday, June 8, 2017 in the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk. She was born August 16, 1936 in Mayville, the daughter of the late Claude and Bernice Fuller Harington.

Rose had been employed by First National Bank in Mayville as a clerk.

She belonged to the Chautauqua Grange, was a graduate of Mayville Central School and was active in the Alumni Association for many years. She loved country music, reading Western books, bingo, and most of all, spending time with her family, especially her nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Rose is survived by her two sons, Scott (Jennifer) Hess of Mayville and Troy (Christine) Hess of Hartfield; two grandsons, Tyler and Jacob Hess of Mayville; three sisters, Barbara (Carl) Witherow of Ripley, Lois Maloy of Mayville and Christine (John) Kroll of Mayville; one brother, Alton Harrington of Mayville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Herbert Hess and John VonVolen; one brother, Larry Harrington; one half-brother, Cecil Harrington; and one half-sister, Lois Harrington Smith.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, June 15 at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. Pastor Mark Parsons will officiate. Burial will be in Mayville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM on Wednesday, June 14 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Mayville Fire Department and Rescue Squad, PO Box 2, Mayville, NY 14757.
