Henry F. Bajdas

Henry F. "Hank" Bajdas, 94, of Dunkirk died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, April 19, 2017 at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk. He was born in Detroit, MI, the son of the late Thomas and Anastasia (Malkowiak) Bajdas.

A resident of the area for most of his life, Hank was a graduate of Dunkirk High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He had been employed at Ford Motor Company in Blasdell as a welder.

A parishioner of Holy Trinity Church, he also was a member of the Kosciuszko Club, Loyal Order of the Dunkirk Moose Lodge #89, and the American Legion Post 62, where he was a past commander.

Survivors include three sons, Donald Bajdas and Robert J. (Silvana) Bajdas, Sr., both of Fredonia, and David (Michelle) Bajdas of Winter Garden, FL; five grandchildren, Robert Bajdas, Jr., Alicia (William H. Sipprell III), Joshua T. Bajdas, Matthew Bajdas and Jack Bajdas; one sister, Sophie Kubasik; two brothers, Edward Bajdas of Lancaster and Joseph (Shirley) Bajdas of Waterloo; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances "Peggy" Bajdas; stepmother, Theresa Maslach Bajdas; two brothers, Norbert Bajdas and Arthur "Archie" Bajdas; three stepbrothers, Michael Maslach, Ralph "Rufus" Maslach and William Maslach; and three stepsisters, Emily Hanley, Frances Kozlowski and Beatrice Culver.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Saturday, April 22 at 10:00 AM in Holy Trinity Church. Military Honors will be accorded by the Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council. Calling hours will be held Friday, April 21 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Hyacinth's Cemetery.
