Emily M. Smith, 104, of Dunkirk, died Saturday evening, April 15, 2017. She was born in Dunkirk on May 28, 1912, daughter of the late Frank and Clara (Gestwicki) Jankowski.
Emily was an Avon lady for 35 years, and had won a Buick from Avon in a nationwide contest for Avon representatives. She was also a past employee of the former Van Raalte Corporation.
Emily enjoyed time spent with her family and also playing pinocle with her many friends.
Surviving are her children, Paulette (late Ronald) Bialaszewski of Fredonia, Leo "Butch" (Lynda Russo) Smith of Cassadaga and Jean (William) Katta of Stockton; grandchildren, Shelly Perkins, James C. Bialaszewski, Jeffery Smith, Deana Hollman, Kenneth Katta, Darin Katta and Ryan Katta; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Eleanor Goggin; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband, Leo M. Smith, whom she married February 28, 1938 and died February 24, 1996; grandson, Todd Smith, who died January 20, 2017; and sister, Celia Dolski.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, April 19 at 11:00 AM in Blessed Mary Angela Parish Church of St. Hedwig. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
