Ralph D. Hover

Ralph D. Hover, 81, of Sinclairville, formerly of Cassadaga, went to be with the Lord Monday, March 27, 2017 in his home surrounded by his family, after a short battle with cancer. A lifelong area resident, he was born May 5, 1935 in Dunkirk, the son of the late Frank M. and Velma E. Tilley Hover.

Ralph attended Cassadaga Valley High School, Class of 1954 and was employed by National Fuel for 30 years, retiring in 1997. He was also employed in his earlier years at Loblaws in Dunkirk, Burnham Machine Shop in Cassadaga and part-time at the New York State Thruway in Dunkirk.

He was a member of the Dunkirk Moose Lodge 89, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, Sinclairville 76ers, Sinclairville Historical Society, Sinclairville Senior Citizens, Centralia Union Cemetery having served as trustee. He attended Wayside Chapel in South Stockton and Hernando Church of the Nazarene in Inverness, FL.

Ralph enjoyed golfing, hunting, gardening, model airplanes and attending his grandchildren's activities and who he loved and was very proud of. He was a handyman and enjoyed crafting with wood and steel and also enjoyed playing cards with all his Florida friends.

He is survived by his second wife of 13 years, Lucille France; his children, Laurie (Terry) Norris of Bemus Point, Brian (Donaldly) Hover of Fredonia and Jeffrey (June) Hover of Jamestown; six grandchildren, Ashlyn Norris of Chapel Hill, NC, Taylor Norris of Bemus Point, Adam Hover of Jamestown, Sarah Hover of Soufolk, VA, Tammy (Ted) Hansen of Brooktondale and Darci Giaimo of Jamestown; and six great grandchildren, Liam and Cecily Hansen, Devon, Maddox, Sylus and Nash Giaimo. He is also survived by three stepsons, Darrel (Patti) France and Ken (Tracy) France, both of Sinclairville, and James France of Bemus Point; three stepdaughters, Sally Neer of Fairview, PA, Misty (Ryan) Zahm of Sinclairville and Faith (Brian) Kuhlman of Dunkirk; 15 stepgrandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Henry Hover of Colorado; a stepsister, Joyce Bryant of Union City, PA; and an uncle, Gene (Beatrice) Tilley of Dunkirk. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce E. Crowell, whom he married April 2, 1955, and who died February 22, 2002; and a stepgrandson, Little Ryan.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 4 in the Falconer Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 5 in the funeral home. The Rev. Phil Shay, pastor of Wayside Chapel, will officiate. Inurnment will be in Centralia Union Cemetery.
