Dorothy B. "Sunny" Sarzyniak, 92, of Dunkirk died Sunday morning, February 5, 2017 at Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab in Dunkirk. She was born August 29, 1924 in Rochester, daughter of the late John and Mary (Kaminski) Krzesinski.
A retired employee of the former M. Wile Plant in Dunkirk, and at one time an employee of the former Van Raalte Corporation and during WWII and Wollensak in Rochester.
Dorothy put family first and foremost and also enjoyed to sew, sing, and was well known for her infectious smile.
Her memberships included Blessed Mary Angela R.C. Parish Church of St. Hedwig, the parish Ladies Society, and former Lake Shore Senior Citizens Center in Dunkirk.
Surviving are her son, James "Sarz" (Dee Dee Earle) of Dunkirk; daughters, Susan (Jim Sr.) Hurley of Myrtle Beach, SC and Laura (Nicholas) Green of Fredonia; grandchildren, Shannon (Ric) Juett of Branson, MO, Ryan (Valerie) Hurley of Raleigh, NC, Jim Hurley, Jr. of Dunkirk, Jeff Green of Fredonia, Meggie (Patrick Krull) Green of Warren, NJ and Christopher Green of Fredonia; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Stanley F. Sarzyniak, who died July 6, 1983; sisters, Helen Ilgunas, Jennie Krzesinski, Martha Babiarz and Florence Pecora; and grandchildren, Mike Hurley and Tracey Sarzyniak.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call Thursday, February 9 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty St., Dunkirk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 10 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in St. Hedwig's Cemetery.
