Carl A. Messina, age 81, of Dunkirk died Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the Absolut Care of Westfield following an extended illness. He was born in New York City on July 7, 1925, the son of the Carmelo and Wendelina (Stummelman) Messina.
A Dunkirk resident for most of his life, he was a retired crane operator at Erie Forge and Steel and was formerly employed as a crane operator at Roblin Steel.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960.
He enjoyed staying at the Blue Beach Campgrounds and wintering in Florida.
He is survived by his son, Troy Anthony Messina; his grandchildren, Kiersten Messina and Kurtis Messina, both of Phoenix, AZ; his brother, Henry "Hank" Messina of Fredonia; his nephews, Henry Messina, Jr. and John Messina; his godson, Scott R. Thrasher, Jr. and Paula Grisanti Thrasher; his former sister-in-law, Janelle Crates and her son, Robert Crates; and longtime companion, Christine Buck.
