Victor F. Kawski

Victor F. Kawski, 96, of Fredonia died Monday morning, January 9, 2017 at the Absolut at Westfield. He was born June 1, 1920 in Pomfret, son of the late Frank and Rose (Larson) Kawski.

A veteran of WWII, he served in the U.S. Army from 1943-45 in Northern France, Central Europe, Rhineland, Ardennes and received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with five Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Victor was a retired employee of Roblin Steel in 1984 and had worked many years prior at the former ALCO Plant. He also owned and operated a grape farm.

Memberships include St. Joseph R.C. Church, 60-year member of National Grape Cooperative, Fredonia American Legion Post #59, Sheridan VFW, and past member of the Kosciuszko Polish Home.

Surviving are sons, Victor A. (Fonda) Kawski of Fredonia and Michael (Jeanie) Kawski of Honeoye Falls; three grandchildren, Daniel (Beth) Kawski, Janice (J) Baker, Katie (Justin) Knapp; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Godlewski of Westfield and Eleanor Shuart of Dunkirk; and brothers, Robert (Jean) Kawski of Stockton, William Kawski of Westfield and James Kawski of Fredonia. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. Preceded in death, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Elaine (Skop) Kawski, who died August 20, 1997; sisters, Martha Brisky and Phyllis Butcher; and brothers, Frank and Leo Kawski.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 13 at 11:00 AM in St. Joseph R.C. Church in Fredonia, and interment will be in Forestville Cemetery. There will be no prior visitation.
