The man who has headed up the Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities the past 14 years will be retiring late this summer. County Executive George Borrello says DPF Director George Spanos will be stepping down on August 15th after 31 years with the department. Borrello says Spanos will be sorely missed because of his range of experience and expertise. He says Spanos has been involved in several projects down through the years, from roads and bridges to the county's bus service...

Borrello says Spanos was also instrumental in development of the county's methane-to-electric plant at the county landfill in Ellery. Borrello says he's already assembled a five-member search committee to find a replacement for Spanos; however, he wants to move quickly so someone can be named and work with Spanos before his retirement.
