UB Study to Probe History of Lake Effect Snow in New York

A new study is underway that will dig into a weather phenomenon that Chautauqua County residents deal with each winter: lake effect snow. The University at Buffalo is launching a study into lake effect snowfall. According to university officials, the ultimate goal of the research is to understand whether lake effect snow will become more frequent or intense in coming decades as Earth warms. Clues that researchers will be looking for include the remains of ancient leaves that lie buried in the soil at the bottom of ponds and lakes.
