New York State hunters seem to be having more success this year than in 2016 through the first several weeks of big game seasons. That's the word from DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos, who says early reports show that hunters reported taking nearly 18% more deer in the Northern Zone and 14% more deer in the Southern Zone, compared to same period last year. Through the third weekend of the Southern Zone regular big game season, hunters reported 69,550 deer and 814 bears in 2017, compared to 61,184 deer and 775 bears through the same period in 2016.
