Lake effect hits Buffalo area first, then ski country tonight and Thursday

A Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect from 7 pm Wednesday evening to 7 am Friday for Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Southern Erie counties. The lake effect snow will will affect the Buffalo area first, then move southward this evening.  Meteorologist Jon Hitchcock of the National Weather Service in Buffalo says some lake effect snow occurred in the Buffalo area, but it will be picking up in intensity by this afternoon...

Hitchcock-Lake snow will move southward tonight

Travel will become very difficult, including the evening commute on Thursday. Total snow accumulations of 12 to 20 inches are expected in the most persistent lake snows.
