The final results of the Western Southern Tier Democratic straw poll for New York's 23rd Congressional District have been announced. The winner of Saturday's poll was Ithaca businessman Ian Golden, who got 30% of the votes. Attorney Eddie Sundquist of Jamestown finished second in the poll at 26%. Eight of the ten candidates in next year's Democratic primary appeared at the poll in Randolph, with nearly 200 Democrats participating. In a joint statement, the three Democratic Committee chairs, including Norm Green, said, "The purpose of the straw poll was to have a lot of fun and to introduce the prospective candidates to the Western Southern Tier. We were happy with the turnout and participation."
