A federal appeals court has overturned the 2015 corruption convictions of Dean Skelos, the former majority leader of the New York State Senate, and his son Adam. Both were convicted of extortion, fraud and bribery. The convictions were overturned on similar grounds as the appellate decision in former State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver's case. The convictions were overturned because of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that limited the definition of official corruption. Federal Prosecutors indicate they would retry both Silver and Skelos.
