A Great Lakes researcher and professor at the State University of New York at Fredonia didn't complete her swim across Lake Erie, but Dr. Sherri Mason believes her second swim will help carry the message about the Great Lakes being a valuable resource. Sherri Mason: they hit high waves
Dr. Mason was one of 12 solo swimmers and five relay teams that were making the swim from the Sturgeon Point Marina in Erie County to Crystal Beach, Ontario. One of the swimmers became missing. The Canadian Coast Guard came to the rescue and was able to locate the missing person. While the swim was called because of safety considerations, Dr. Mason says she at least completed the 15.5-mile swim in Chautauqua Lake...
Sherri Mason: hopes message carries on
Dr. Mason will be hanging up the swimming gear. She says it was 14 months of intense training, and she is ready to move on to other plans, including a wedding next summer.
