County to help cover the cost of Chautauqua Lake weed management

Chautauqua County lawmakers have approved a measure giving the Chautauqua Lake and Watershed Management Alliance $100,000 to help cover expenses for weed management and shoreline maintenance this year. However, as part of the agreement, lawmakers unanimously required that no county funds could be used to pay for a recent, limited amount of herbicide use in Bemus Bay. The legislature approved the allocation of 2-percent bed tax funding during last night's monthly meeting by a 13-to-4 vote. Hanover Republican George Borrello supported an amendment requiring the alliance to provide the necessary documentation to be reimbursed. And while a handful of other lawmakers had the same concerns, the majority said they were comfortable with the language in the resolution that the money would only be doled out once money receipts, and other documents were submitted to the county.
