At least one Democrat has announced plans to run against Reed in 2018

At least one Democrat has announced a run for the 23rd Congressional District and several others may also enter the race to challenge Republican Tom Reed.  Rick Gallant, a teacher and coach from Painted Post, announced Thursday that he will challenge Reed in 2018.  Gallant has been a teacher in the Corning-Painted Post School District for 17 years.  He has also coached junior varsity and varsity basketball.  Besides teaching, Gallant has been elected twice to serve on the New York State United Teachers Board of Directors where he represents 150 local unions from Waverly to Westfield. There are reports that there may be as many as five or six candidates who are interested in seeking the Democratic nomination next year.  Reed was elected to his fourth term last November.
