Overheated Meat Smoker Causes Fire on Route 60

Firefighters made quick work of a fire near a barn on Saturday afternoon in the Town of Pomfret.  Crews from Fredonia, Sheridan, East Dunkirk, and Cassadaga responded to 9488 Route 60 just before 2:30 PM.  On arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from inside the barn. According to Fredonia Fire, a resident started his meat smoker, but the fire inside the smoker was larger than anticipated, causing it to overheat.  Firefighters were able to put out the blaze in about 15 minutes to prevent any further damage.  There were no injuries reported.
