High Lead Levels Found in Fredonia and Silver Creek School District Water Samples

Three school districts in the north county have recently tested positive for high levels of lead.  The Fredonia Central School District tested samples in its elementary school and the Wheelock School on September 20th and 21st, as well as the middle school and high school on September 27th and 28th.  Fredonia Central School officials say some of the samples contained elevated lead levels, over 15 parts per billion (ppb).  Similar results were found in the Silver Creek Central School District when water samples were tested there on September 24th.  Earlier in the week, we reported about high levels of lead at Forestville Elementary School. The tests were performed after Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation requiring all public schools in New York to test their drinking water fixtures for lead.
