So far during this high school football season, recurring issues for Fredonia-Westfield-Brocton have included putting together sustained drives and stopping opponents' running games. Those problems were at the forefront again on Friday at East Aurora. In a game broadcast on WDOE, FWB dropped its second straight game, losing to East Aurora 26-0. On offense, FWB (1-3, 0-3) managed to gain only 103 total yards and record only four first downs. Meanwhile, East Aurora (2-2, 1-1) ran for 228 yards en route to 340 total yards on the night. The Blue Devils opened the scoring with 2:32 left in the 1st quarter, as Owen Smith ran for a 25-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead. East Aurora's next drive went 85 yards in 14 plays, with Jacey Jakubczak capping the drive with a 2-yard touchdown run. Jakubczak led the Blue Devils on offense with 100 yards on 13 carries. East Aurora got on the board again right before halftime, as quarterback Matt Boss ran it in from 6 yards to make it 20-0. The Blue Devils closed out the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run by Smith midway through the 3rd quarter. Smith totalled 76 yards on 8 carries to go with his two touchdowns, and Boss completed 8 out of 15 passes for 111 yards. For FWB, receiver Mike Poletto accounted for more than half of the team's offense, catching two passes for 53 yards. At quarterback, Reid Tarnowski completed 5 out of 12 passes for 69 yards, while Max Bates went 1-of-4 for 23 yards.
Meanwhile, Dunkirk was also on the road Friday night and picked up its second consecutive victory. The Marauders led Pioneer 20-6 at halftime en route to a 33-6 victory. Alton Ingram led the way on the ground for Dunkirk (2-2, 1-1) with 19 carries for 92 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Evon Hernandez threw for 101 yards and added 38 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground.
