A new state law will allow visitors to the Grape Discovery Center near Westfield not only to be able sample regional wines, but to also buy them. The legislation, sponsored by area State Senator Cathy Young and Assemblyman Andy Goodell, has been signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo. Goodell says the center, operated by the Concord Grape Belt Heritage Association, faced a frustrating problem...

Goodell says the legislation passed with strong bi-partisan support in the Assembly with only two legislators, both from New York City, opposing it. Young, who led the legislation in the Senate, says by modernizing the law, the center will now be able to "better showcase" the area's industry leading products. Chautauqua County's annual grape harvest accounts for nearly 65 percent of the state's total annual grape harvest.
