It was 34-years ago today when a state trooper from the Gowanda Satellite Office lost his life while responding to a report of a domestic dispute. Trooper Gary Kubasiak and his assigned K-9 Donovan responded to the call on August 30, 1982. He attempted to talk a man, who had a history of incarceration for mental health reasons, into surrendering. Troopers say without warning, the man shot and fatally wounded the nine-year veteran of the force. Troopers and other members of the law enforcement community are remembering Trooper Gary Kubasiak for his courage and determination.
