You might call it a freak accident. A member of the Brocton Fire Department's rescue squad was responding to a possible drug overdose around 5:30 am Friday when he struck a pedestrian who was trying to flag down a Chautauqua County Sheriff's patrol car that was going to the same call. County Sheriff's deputies say 68-year-old David Hazelton of Brocton was on his way to the fire hall when he struck 42-year-old Christopher Small of Fredonia on Lake Avenue in the village. Hazelton immediately stopped to assist Small who had suffered minor injuries. He was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital. The driver was not charged.
