County officials looking at ways to counteract growing opiate abuse problem

The skyrocketing problem of drug overdoses has the attention of Chautauqua County officials and efforts are underway to find a way to get a grip on the problem. County Sheriff Joe Gerace says he will be meeting Friday afternoon with representatives of the New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services or OASIS Program. Gerace-Looking at treatment for heroin addiction
Gerace says the County Jail could be a "nucleus" for the program along with the Drug Court program. He expects to get more details about the program Friday’s meeting. Gerace says the state is reaching out to the county because it’s among the top eight counties per capital in New York State when it comes to the problem of overdoses.
