Police make 44 arrests from weekend-long event in Fredonia

The weekend formerly known as Fred Fest generated a lot of arrests and kept police and fire departments busy in the village of Fredonia both Friday and Saturday. That's according to Fredonia Police Chief Brad Meyers who says the department made plenty of calls. The figures show 171 calls with 44 arrests. He says they had assistance from Dunkirk Police, University Police, New York State Police and the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office when large numbers of people would gather in the streets. And there were a number calls concerning alcohol intoxication. Meyers says many of the arrests did not involve local university students, but rather guests from outside the area.
