The most recent STOP-DWI crackdown effort in Chautauqua County resulted in nearly 1,000 traffic stops. According to Chautauqua County Sheriff Joe Gerace, the enforcement effort that ran from August 21st to September 7th led to 11 arrests for DWI, plus more than 900 other vehicle stops, arrests, and summonses. Law enforcement agencies, including the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office, State Police, Fredonia Police, Ellicott Police, Jamestown Police, and Lakewood-Busti Police, enforced laws related to driving while impaired, with a special emphasis on driving while impaired by either alcohol or drugs. Funding for the crackdown was provided by the state's STOP-DWI Foundation through a grant from the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee.
