The push continues to form a North County Water District and during a special meeting of the Dunkirk Common Council, a presentation on the project and the proposed inter-municipal water purchase/supply agreement was given late Monday. Several community members and officials from a number of surrounding local governments involved in the project attended the meeting. County Executive Vince Horrigan along with Rick Henry of Clark Patterson Lee and Dr. Peter Reinelt, a water resource economist from the State University of New York at Fredonia, made the presentation. Horrigan says he was generally pleased with the response.

Under the proposed agreement, the city of Dunkirk would receive $3.57 per thousand gallons of water sold to the district. Councilman at Large Willie Rosas says the Common Council may be closer to taking action on the agreement.

Horrigan, Henry and Reinelt will be giving presentations in each of the communities involved in the proposed district that would include the towns of Sheridan, Dunkirk, Portland, a portion of Pomfret not served by Fredonia's water system and the village of Brocton. Horrigan hopes each of the communities approve the agreements by November so that final action can be taken by the full County Legislature.
