The city of Dunkirk is gearing up for the annual Fourth of July celebration with plenty of activities being planned in the waterfront area. Dunkirk Police Chief David Ortolano is urging those planning to attend the fireworks and other events to watch out for pedestrians and traffic congestion. He expects large crowds to form, especially in the area of Lake Shore Drive during the holiday weekend.
Ortolano-Drivers will want to be alert
Police are advising people to park in the city parking lots near Second St. and Washington Ave. and Third St. and Central Ave. and walk to the Waterfront area. A portion of Lakefront Boulevard will be closed due to the ongoing seawall construction and people should stay out of the fenced in area of Lakefront Blvd. When leaving the area after the fireworks Saturday night, police encourage drivers to use Central Ave., Main St., Brigham Rd., and South Roberts Road.
