Fredonia Claims Section VI Softball Title

The Fredonia High School softball team won its first Section VI championship in six years with an 8-3 win over Royalton-Hartland on Thursday in the Class B-2 finals.  The Lady Hillbillies got off to a fast start, as Cassie Essek knocked a leadoff triple in the top of the 1st inning to spur a four-run rally.  And that was all Fredonia needed, as senior Baylee Tarnowski held the top-seeded Lady Rams' offense in check.  Tarnowski allowed three runs on six hits and one walk, and also struck out two batters to get the win.  The Lady Billies tacked on an insurance run in the 6th inning and three more in the 7th inning, then held on as Roy-Hart left the bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th.  Sophomore Caitlin Cybart led Fredonia's offense with three of their 11 hits.

The Lady Billies return to action on Saturday at 12:00 PM against Alden in the overall Class B final for Section VI.
