A woman in the south county is facing three felony charges related to welfare fraud. A joint investigation by Chautauqua County Sheriff's Investigators and the Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services Program Integrity Unit revealed that 27-year-old Anna Towne of Frewsburg failed to notify DHHS that her husband was employed from March to August of 2014. This led to Towne receiving $4,500 in unentitled food stamp benefits. She has been charged with 3rd-degree welfare fraud, 3rd-degree grand larceny, and misuse of food stamps.
