A member of the Army National Guard in Buffalo was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Cattaraugus County on Saturday. State Police in Machias responded to the scene on Route 16 in the Town of Yorkshire just before 6:15 AM. According to troopers, 21-year-old Brenden DeCarlo of Olean was northbound on Route 16 when he encountered a slight right hand curve in the roadway. DeCarlo crossed into the southbound lane, directly into the oncoming path of an oncoming Trans-Am ambulance. DeCarlo suffered a traumatic blunt force injury from the collision and was pronounced dead at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville. One person in the ambulance who suffered a minor wrist injury was treated and released.
