Fredonia village lawmakers have not made a decision yet on whether to fill a vacancy in the police department. As WDOE News reported earlier this month, trustees have been reluctant to fill the full-time position which has been vacant since the end of December. Trustee Susan MacKay says she is not ruling out the hiring of a full-time police officer, but she wants to see budget figures before taking action.

However, Police Chief Brad Meyers feels trustees do not want to fill the position.

Village trustees recently approved the hiring of retired village Police Officer Thomas Fisher on an as-needed basis. Meyers says Fisher is filling a part-time position, which is limited to a maximum of 20 hours per week.
