Local governments in the North County area are step closer to forming a water district that could eventually serve nine local governments and possibly more. The Chautauqua County Water Agency Board voted 11-0 for a plan to form a Northern Chautauqua County Water District and to direct Chautauqua County to bond for $21 million. County Executive Vince Horrigan says there are still a lot of questions, but local leaders have taken an important step.

Horrigan, who led the last night's meeting in Dunkirk was peppered by a number of questions. Dunkirk Mayor AJ Dolce, who made the motion to approve the plan, says there are still a lot of unresolved issues to deal with.

Horrigan says the task now is to gain approval from the nine member municipalities in November and to adopt inter-municipal agreements. Horrigan hopes to have a final resolution and the inter-municipal agreements to the County Legislature for adoption in December.
