The repowering project in Dunkirk has become a major issue in the race for the 23rd Congressional District in Chautauqua County and there's been a volley of sharp criticism by the candidates over who is the stronger supporter of the project. WDOE News has recently completed separate Viewpoint interviews with both incumbent Republican Tom Reed and Democratic challenger Martha Robertson. Reed made it a campaign issue shortly after two environmental groups including Sierra Club filed lawsuits against the State Public Service Commission. He says Robertson can't be trusted because of her Sierra Club endorsement.
Reed-Doesn't trust Robertson
Robertson told WDOE News she has supported the conversion to natural gas, even though she has received an endorsement from Sierra Club. She cites the support from the workers at the plant.
Robertson-Has support of workers
We will air the Congressman Tom Reed Viewpoint interview this Friday on WDOE and the Martha Robertson interview next Thursday.
