A 38-year-old Fredonia man was taken to the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo with serious injuries after he was hit by a car this morning in Portland. Chautauqua County Sheriff's officers, Alstar Ambulance, and Fredonia Rescue were called to Route 20 just after 9:00 AM. An investigation found that Eddie Acevedo of Fredonia was driving westbound on Route 20 and approached Christopher Barnett, who was on the side of the road. Deputies say Barnett entered the roadway for an unknown reason and was struck by the vehicle. Barnett was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital before being transferred to ECMC. No charges will be filed.
