Lawsuit over Dunkirk repowering project becomes campaign issue

The lawsuit over the PSC decision regarding the repowering project has also become a campaign issue.  Congressman Tom Reed, who is seeking his third term in the House of Representatives, raised concerns about Democrat Martha Robertson's ties with the Sierra Club and with the Ratepayer and Community Intervenors.  He made his comments during a conference call with WDOE News and several other media outlets.

Reed-Troubled by Robertson's ties to Sierra Club

WDOE News reached out to Robertson's campaign for comment.  In an email, Communications Director Seth Stein says, "Yet again, Congressman Tom Reed continues to make false negative attacks on Martha's record. Martha is an independent leader who backed the plan to convert NRG to natural gas in Dunkirk. The Sierra Club endorsed Martha Robertson because they know she will fight to protect our drinking water, and she is not paid for the oil and gas special interests that fund Congressman Reed's campaign." Besides his conference call, WDOE News has learned that Reed has also raised the issue in robo calls that were being made last night.
