Fredonia and Delafield, WI Planning Joint Ceremony for Alonzo Cushing

The two communities where a Civil War hero who is receiving the Medal of Honor 150 years after he was killed has roots are looking at doing something in conjunction with the occasion. Fredonia Mayor Steve Keefe has been in touch with the Mayor of Delafield, Wisconsin, Michele DeYoe after receiving word of President Barack Obama's decision to approve the highest U.S. honor for 1st Lt. Alonzo Cushing. He says both communities were caught off guard by this week's announcement.

Keefe says he was also in touch with Senator Charles Schumer's office for details about how the September 15th ceremony would be handled. Cushing was killed at the age of 22 during the battle of Gettysburg during Pickett's Charge.
