Will there be enough support in the County Legislature to assist the village of Forestville with its fiscal crisis? Legislators will take up a proposal that includes a bridge loan of $150,000 along with reimbursement of $87,000 in tipping fees in exchange for 14 years of landfill credits that have been designated to the local government. Assistant Majority Leader John Runkle, who also chairs the Audit and Control Committee, says there may be some changes made to the proposal.
Runkle-Further changes are possible
Among the changes, the funding for the loan would have to come from the undesignated fund balance, not the capital reserve fund. Both Runkle and Minority Leader Keith Ahlstrom, who appeared on WDOE's Viewpoint program, say they support assisting the village. If not corrected, Ahlstrom says Forestville's financial woes could have an effect on the county.
Ahlstrom-County needs to help Forestville
As part of the deal, the county is calling on the village to request the state comptroller's office audit all of Forestville's financial records for the past five years. The village must also participate in a task force that will examine whether the village should consider dissolution. Legislators will gather in Mayville at 6:30 pm this evening.
