Let's Reunite Love!         Chautauqua County Humane Society Pets of the Week         This week we are featuring “Connie” and “Twizzler”.  Connie is a 1 year old kitty that is really ready for a quiet home of her own. The commotion at the shelter is a bit much for her causing her to hide from it. She would be best in a home without small children and with a family that will be patient with her as she finds her way. Twizzler is an 8 year old lab mix that came from a not so great beginning. She is unsure around new people and places, but given time settles into a routine. She will need a special home with people that will give her the time she needs and that will continue to work with her to help her adjust to life in a home. A fenced yard is a must for her. Twizzler would prefer to be the only pet. If you have the heart and home for either of these two special pets waiting for their 2nd chance, please stop by the Strunk Road Adoption Center and ask about them. They are waiting for the love and caring of a real family. For more information or questions, please call (716) 665-2209 ext. 200.   Don’t forget...Clear the Shelters is this Saturday!! For more information or questions, please call (716) 665-2209 ext. 200.         “Jada” and “Angel”. Jada is a wonderful 5 year old pit bull mix. She loves to play but when play time is done she likes nothing better than cuddle time on the couch with you. She does have quiet a bit of energy so a home with kids over 8 would be best. Angel is a 1 year old love bug that loves ball toys and a laser light to chase. She is a special needs kitty that is still searching for that perfect home. She has rear end paralysis so she can’t use her back legs and is incontinent. She does have a cart she uses and scoots around on the floor just fine. She will wear kitty diapers, too. Angel does not like dogs so a home without dogs is a must. If either of these pets sound like a great addition to your home and your heart please stop by the Strunk Road Adoption Center and ask to meet them. They are counting on you! For more information or questions, please call (716) 665-2209 ext. 200.           “Nana” and “Hermes”. Nana is a super sweet 1 year old mixed breed. She loves walks, cuddling and squeaky toys. Really, really loves squeaky toys! She gets along with almost everyone but likes to chase cats a little too much so a home without cats is a must. Hermes is a nice 1 year old kitty that tends to be a little shy so a home without small kids would be best. He likes to be pet, but is not a fan of being picked up. He is just looking for that home that will be patient and give him a little time for him to become the best that he can. He is really very nice and has lots of love to give. He is waiting for his family to find him. If either of these great pets sound like the right one for you, please stop by the Strunk Road Adoption Center and ask to meet them. You will be glad you did! For more information or questions, please call (716) 665-2209 ext 200          Lila and Cleopatra. Lily is a wonderful 5 year old pit bull mix that has been at the shelter for 2 years. She needs to be with her people or person so would do best in a home where someone is there most of the time. She wants your undivided attention so she would prefer being your one and only! The amount of love she has to give is endless and she deserves a home of her own. Cleopatra is a 10 year old kitty that likes things on the laid back side. A calm home would be her preference. She is declawed and does fine with other cats. She is looking for that forever home that every pet should have. If either of these 2 sounds like the one for you, or any of the other great pets that are waiting for their 2nd chance at a great life, please stop by the Strunk Road Adoption Center. You will be glad you did! For more information or questions, please call (716) 665=2209 ext.200.                      “Cinder” and “Rosie”. Cinder is a beautiful long hair gray 8 year old boy that can be a little bit shy, but does warm up. He does not like to be picked up, but likes to lay by you so you can pet him. Rosie is 1 year old hound mix. She is sweet and likes just about everyone she meets. She can be a bit high energy because she is young, so a home with kids over 5 might be best. If you would like to meet either of these 2 “best friends”, stop at the Strunk Road Adoption Center. They are waiting for you! For more information or questions, please call (716) 665-2209 ext. 200.         “Reilly” and “Panther”.  Reilly is a 2 year old Border Collie mix that is ready to play. He is very energetic and really needs a job. He might be a great candidate for an agility course. Because of his energy we think he would be too much for smaller kids. Panther is a 2 year old shorthair cat that really rules the roost. He would be best in a home where he is the only male kitty as he knows that he is “all that”. Because he has an in charge personality, he needs a home with no little kids and people that can respect his need to be boss. He loves attention and is not shy about letting you know he wants it. If either of these sound like a pet that would fit into your home and life, please stop by the Strunk Road Adoption Center and meet them or any of the other great pets waiting for their 2nd chance at a great life. For questions or more information, please call (716) 665-2209 ext. 200.          “Alec” and “Clare”. Alec is a spunky 7 year old Jack Russell Terrier that loves attention and will take all you give him. He does ok with most other dogs but does not do well with cats or other small pets. Clare is a beautiful 2 year old shorthair that is a special kitty looking for a special home. Due to an untreated infection or injury, she had to have an eye removed once she got to our shelter. Her remaining eye is scarred and she has no vision so she is blind. She is very lovable and will play with toys with bells in them as she can hear them. Both of these wonderful pets deserve a forever home of their own. If you think that either will fit into your heart and life, or any of the other pets waiting for their chance at a great life, please stop by the Strunk Road Adoption Center and meet them. You will be glad you did. For more information or questions, please call (716) 665-2209 ext. 200.       “Snoopy” and “Tipster”. Snoopy is a 6 year old terrier that knows his mind. He is a bit quirky and needs a calm home with no cats. He is fine with calm dogs and kids over 13 years old. He is looking for someone that understands him and will be patient as he settles in. Tipster is a 5 year old kitty that would do best in a quiet home. He knows who he likes and loves attention from his friends. Tipster has been here for almost 2 years and is really ready for a forever home of his own. If you have a special place in your heart and home for either of these pets, please stop by the Strunk Road Adoption Center and meet them. All the pets at the shelter are waiting for the 2nd chance they deserve. For information or questions call (716) 665-2209 ext. 200.            “Lila”    Hello my name is Lila! I am currently the longest staying resident at CCHS. I'm a friendly girl who loves to play fetch with tennis balls. I know sit and down and I am eager to learn more. I would do best in a home with kids who are 8 years and older because I can get jumpy when I'm very excited. I would also do best if I was the only dog in the home. If you're looking for a lady to bring love and vitality into your life, I'm the gal for you! Come by and meet me today!          “Jack”. Jack is a very friendly 5 year old kitty that can be quite the talker. He will need to stay on a special diet of prescription food to keep him healthy. If you have room in your heart and your home Jack, or any other, great pet awaiting their 2nd chance for a great life, stop by the Strunk Road Adoption Center to meet your new best friend! For more information or questions, please call (716) 665-2209 ext. 200,         “Tinkerbell”. Tinkerbell is a nice 6 year old kitty that would really prefer the quiet life in a forever home. Shelter life is a bit stressful for her, so she will need time in a new home to adjust and patient people to give her that time. She is truly a diamond in the rough. If you have the place in your heart and home for either of these, or any of the pets at CCHS, please stop in at the Strunk Road Adoption Center. You will be glad you did! For more information or questions, please call (716) 665-2209 ext. 200.            “Joplin” and “Missy”. Joplin is a 5 year old pit bull mix. She is a sweet and mellow girl that likes taking walks. She seems to like everyone, but might be too much for cats. Missy is a beautiful 2 1/2 year old gray kitty. She is missing an eye, probably due to an old injury. Because of this, it would be best if she was an inside only cat. Both of these great pets are waiting for their 2nd chance at a great life. If you have room in your heart and your home for either of these, or any of our other great pets, please stop in at the Strunk Road Adoption Center. You will be glad you did! For more information or questions, please call (716) 665-2209 ext. 200.             “Tipster”   Tipster is a beautiful 5 year old kitty that has been at the shelter for over 1 1/2 years. He likes attention, but only on his terms. He would do well in a home where he can be his own guy. He does well with other kitties as long as he has space.   If Tipster sounds like a fit for your home (and heart), please stop by the Strunk Road Adoption Center at meet him or any of the other wonderful pets waiting for their 2nd chance at a great life. For more information or questions, please call (716) 665-2209 ext. 200.                  The Next Adoption Days are:   August 12th August 26th   Noon - 4 PM    Please come to our semi-monthly adoption days from noon until 4pm at 431 East Chestnut Street, Dunkirk. You can make a special appointment to see any of our adoptable dogs or cats by calling 672-1991, visiting our Facebook page (Lakeshore Humane Society), or contacting us through our website: www.lakeshorehumanesociety.com      This beautiful cat needs a low-stress, quiet home. She is a short haired tabby with a beautiful golden face. Gucci has had some digestive issues and is on a special diet. When she is feeling well, she is pleasant and friendly; however, if she gets the wrong food and upset stomach, she hides under her blankets.  Because she is a special needs cat, we are offering a special low adoption fee for her to go to the right home.     Lainey: This unique and beautiful calico is mostly orange and white, with black spots on her face, ears and back.  Lainey is about 4 years old, and her "forever" home turned out to be temporary.  She becomes nervous in new environments and her owner wasn't able to cope with this type of animal.  Lainey has adjusted well to living at the Adoption Center and is very friendly with our volunteers, but she needs a quiet, patient home, hopefully with a quiet, patient cat to pal with.        "Sparky"    It's hard to believe that this gorgeous long haired gray cat  is approximately 10 yrs old. He's a very playful guy who like toys and attention from people. He has cuddled up to some of our young visitors and been super loving with children. Although he does have a heart murmur, it doesn't seem to affect him at all. He is neutered and up to date on his shots.  Because he is a senior cat, his adoption fee is only half the standard fee. You will be very pleased to have this elegant, friendly cat as part of your family.                  Despite the name, Flynn is female.  She is a beautifully marked 10 month old tortie, with lots of orange, and the cutest face. She has really come out of her shell since she came to us, and become very friendly and trusting.  She really enjoys being petted and having her fur brushed, and seems to get along with other cats.       "Velcro"     When she was about 7 months old, Velcro was trapped and has been with us for almost 1 1/2 years. She has velvety black fur, and beautiful green eyes.  She is a little apprehensive when approached, but loves to be petted and will be a great, laid back pet. Velcro has been in a cage far too long and is getting a little plump.  She needs a forever home and a chance to move around more freely.       "Cokie"   This black and white spayed female is a favorite with some of our volunteers. Although she does not like to be picked up, she is super friendly and sits at the door to her kennel just waiting for someone to play with her.  Like any young animal, she can get overstimulated, so you need to read and respect her signals. Although she is reputed as not being good with children or dogs, she was fine with the grandchildren of one of our volunteers, so it probably depends on the approach. You are welcome to bring your family to interact with her to see if she is the right pet for you.   Ricky  This older cat needs a special loving home, and a peaceful, stress free life.  .  Ricky's fur is medium long charcoal with distinctive stripes.  Sometimes he gets scared and growls, but he doesn't mean it.  He has no teeth or front claws, so he couldn't hurt anyone even if he wanted to, which he doesn't. He really just wants to be loved and petted, and purrs when he feelssafe a nd calm and loved. Ricky has tested positive for FIV, (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus)  but FIV cannot be transmitted from cat to human or to dogs.  Because he is a "special needs" pet, his adoption fee has been reduced.        Moffitt~This beautiful black tuxedo cat was found with a collar around her neck and leg about a year ago. Efforts to find her owner have been unsuccessful, so she needs a new home. She is estimated to be about four years old, is friendly and pleasant, and seems to get along well with other cats.     Gwen: This very friendly young mother and her kittens came to our care shortly before Christmas. Now that her offspring have been adopted, she is ready for her forever home. Gwen is a short haired brown tabby with white feet and underside, and a distinctive brown spot left of her nose.  She is very friendly and loving, spayed, up to date on her shots, and ready to go.     Dogs are available for adoption: All dog adoptions require a pre-home visit and references will be checked.        This handsome boy is Zeus, a 120 pound rottweiler who is approximately 1 yr old. He needs an experienced owner who is confident enough to handle a dog of his size. Zeus knows several commands and is eager to learn. He tends to be a big loving baby with those he is comfortable with. Zeus wants to be your one and only, so he should be the only pet. Because of his size, we recommend older children only.   Macho is a 3yr old mix of Husky, Malamute and Fuzzy Muppet. He's been working hard on his manners and basic commands and is doing great. Macho has done well with the other dogs he's met and seems to ignore cats. He loves everyone he meets, and is sweet and gentle with children.  Because of the breed's tendency to be runners and escape artists, we would recommend a fenced yard. He's an active boy who needs regular, moderate exercise and enjoys the outdoors. Macho would be a great companion for someone who is home a lot, as he loves to be around people.     Take two--they're small!   These two adorable guys have just become available, and need a home together. They are both just under a year old.  Ollie is smaller and really needs Winston as a companion; he is afraid without him.  If you have room for two little friends, please consider giving these two a forever home. We're going to do a special adoption fee of $225. The second dog would be half price   Loki is a 4 yr. old  handsome Husky/Shepard mix. Despite his size and his bark, he is a big love bug! Loki knows several commands and is well behaved. He would be the perfect addition to any family.    Otis, a Puggle approximately 8 years old, was captured after being on the run in a winter storm.  He had a severe untreated skin and ear infection, but he's better now and ready for his new home.  He still has pep in his step and enjoys romping around the yard, playing and going for walks. This sweet and friendly dog loves being with people and would be a perfect companion for a senior.     Ruger is a three-year-old shepherd mix looking for his forever home. He is graceful like a deer, and would be a great jogging or hiking buddy for an active person or family. He doesn't like being alone, and needs to work through some anxiety issues. He is also selective about which dogs he seems to like.          Duncan, a 7 yr old purebred St. Bernard, is our gentle giant. He is friendly and loves being around people, walks well on a leash and enjoys leisurely walks through the neighborhood. He likes being brushed and loves a good belly rub. He will be a great family pet, but Duncan must be in a cat free home.    Rocky is a 2-year-old boxer mix, and he also has polka dots! He is very playful, and needs to learn a few basic manners. He loves balls, hugs, treats, and playing tag (if he tackles you, you're "It"). We are still getting to know Rocky, as he was brought to us after being picked up as a stray.                 You can visit any of our dogs at the shelter at 7540 N. Gale Street in Westfield. We're open from 1-3pm Monday through Saturday or you can make an appointment by calling 326-PAWS or emailing adoptions@caninerescue.org. All the dogs can also be seen on the web at www.caninerescue.org.           If you received last month's email you might be pleased to know that big dogs Bear and Izzie did find a wonderful home together.  It doesn't always happen quickly, but when a bonded pair of dogs comes in, we make every effort to keep them together, even if it takes months and months.  We currently have another bonded pair, (much, much smaller this time!) who arrived when their elderly person had to move to a place where she couldn't take them, so she turned them over to us.  Dolly and Pixie are a mother/daughter duo who are both spayed, seem to like other little dogs, and have lived with cats before.  They are adorably cute together, and we would like them to find a home together.  Please call the shelter at 716-326-7297 or stop by during open hours Monday-Saturday from 1-3pm at 7540 N. Gale St. in Westfield if you would like to meet them.  Many of the other dogs can be seen online at www.caninerescue.org.     June was a busy month at the shelter with many puppies and dogs finding loving homes.  So far this year we have had 125 adoptions.  If you were one of those lucky adopters we thank you and hope that all is going well with your new buddy.  We want to make sure everything turns out right;  if you have any questions or concerns,  call us for information; we are here for you!  I am sorry to write that Dolly and Pixie who were featured in last month's email have still not found homes.   These sweet girls are house trained, like spending time with people, and are used to cats and other small dogs.  Their antics together are fun to watch too!  So spread the word about them and maybe July will be their lucky month.   Don't forget too, the 5th Annual Yard Dog-Gone Good yard sale comes up July 28th and 29th.  We will start taking items July 1st so this is a good month to go through your house, barn, garage or wherever to find saleable items for us.  The list is huge of what sells...books, jewelry, purses, furniture, linens, glassware, toys, outdoor items, sporting goods, records, kitchen items, household knick knacks.....etc etc etc.  No mattresses, clothing or electronics though.    Declutter your house and donate the items to help out the dogs!  Then you can come to the yard sale and buy stuff to fill in the empty spaces from your donations   Sammi is the special dog to be highlighted this month; you might have heard or seen about her already as she's been with us for several months.                Sammi has gone from being a very scared soon-to-be-mom to a much more confident, dog friendly, people friendly girl who is now spayed and ready for a home of her own.  You can read her story here http://www.caninerescue.org/sammi/        If you like bigger dogs, we currently have 3 hounds that are available for adoption.  You might have heard about Sammi, who was running wild for the longest time last year, became pregnant, and through the amazing efforts of our Executive Director, managed to be caught just in time to have her puppies at the shelter the end of last year.  All those pups found homes, but Sammi is still here waiting her turn.  She's come such a long way, from being terrified of people, to realizing that we mean no harm to her.  She needs a fenced yard, a loving family who would understand she needs time to adjust to new things, a dog companion to learn from, and a nice couch would be perfect for her!        Winchester is also available; he's basically a puppy  in a 3 year old adult dog's body.  He needs work on his house training, and he likes some dogs, but not others.  He has a goofy puppy personality, and as you can see in this picture, he loves to play in the yard!     Misty Dawn is a  beautiful spayed adult female Redtick coonhound who recently arrived.  She's friendly to all people, loves attention and head rubs and seems house trained.      Do you think any of these dogs might fit into your home and lifestyle?  Or perhaps you can just spread the word about NCCR and the great dogs that are available so other people can see them.    The shelter is located at 7540 N. Gale St. in Westfield and is open Monday-Saturday from 1-3pm or by appointment by calling 716-326-7297 (PAWS).  Most of the dogs can be seen online at www.caninerescue.org. NCCR has a number of events this month we are hosting or participating in: Friday, July 7 “First Friday”, Main Street, Westfield, 5:00pm-8:00pm Saturday, July 22 “Pups on the Patio”, Grape Discovery Center, Westfield, 12:00pm-4:00pm Fri. & Sat., July 28 & 29 5th Annual Doggone Good Yard Sale 9am-4pm We are taking donations now for the 5th Annual Doggone Good Yard Sale held July 28 and 29.  Anything that is saleable, except electronics, mattresses and clothing can be donated.  Items can be dropped off at the shelter during our open hours Monday-Saturday from 1-3pm or by appointment.  Go through your attic, garage, barn, wherever you have things tucked away that you no longer need/use and would like to donate.  We know that there will be someone out there that will buy it!  We've had jewelry, books, records, dvds, furniture, lawn equipment, antiques, knick knacks, sporting goods, luggage, purses, holiday items, glassware, toys, stuffed animals and kitchenware, etc donated before;  the list is endless of what can be donated and what will sell.  ALL the proceeds go to the care and well being of the dogs.  After you've donated, stop back at the end of the month for the sale and bring all your friends!  It really is amazing what you will find. :-) Speaking of donations, the shelter is in need of one of those large patio umbrellas to shade part of the isolation room yard.  We added the isolation room last year for dogs that needed time by themselves for peace, quiet or recuperation.  The room has an outside cement pad area that's fenced in, but we didn't have the funds to put a roof over it, so we'd like to give it some shade with the umbrella for now.  NCCR is a 501(c)3 non profit organization so your donation could be tax deductible. Lastly, if you think you'd like to join a great group of volunteers who loves dogs and wants to help them, call for an application or go online to our website at  http://www.caninerescue.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Volunteer-Application.pdf to fill it out.  We always need more help; we could use some more volunteers who can spare 3 hrs on a weekly basis to help different shifts out.  You'll be well rewarded with new 2 and 4 legged friends! As always, thank you for your support!   Maybe you can't adopt but have extra time on your hands? Go to the website and fill out a volunteer application or stop by the shelter during open hours from 1-3pm Monday-Saturday and pick up an application there.   There are a number of ways you can help out either hands on with the dogs weekdays, evenings or weekends or with events, fundraising or other things.   The shelter is located at 7540 N. Gale St. in Westfield and their phone number is 716-326-7297.       You'll make new two and four legged friends for sure!   Have you wondered about how you can help the dogs?   We are always looking for volunteers to work shifts, help at events, even just do yard work.  Haven't got the time to volunteer?  How about helping financially and donating your empty nickel deposit cans and bottles.   Several of the local redemption centers such as Get Your Nickel Back in Fredonia, Don's Car Wash in Lakewood and Farm Fresh Variety Store Bottle & Can Redemption in Jamestown will even take your returns and send us the money! Another painless way is by shopping via Amazon Smile and designating Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue as your charity of choice.  Amazon donates .5% of your purchases (at no additional cost to you!) to the charity you've chosen.  Every penny counts! Many of the dogs can be seen online at www.caninerescue.org.  The website lists upcoming events, fundraisers, adoption successes, rabies clinics and other things.  Be sure to check out our Facebook page too; you can easily spread the word about NCCR dogs by liking/sharing their images; it costs you nothing and yet might mean everything to that dog if it helps it find a home.    Dogs can change very rapidly, so if you're looking for something specific, keep checking back! Come find a new friend, be it a couch potato or a running buddy, we have all shapes, sizes and colors waiting for you!  If you haven't been by the shelter lately, stop on in!  We're located at 7540 N. Gale St. in Westfield and are open Monday-Saturday from 1-3pm or by appointment by calling 716-326-7297.  Most of the dogs can be seen online at www.caninerescue.org or check out our Facebook page too.     As always, we love to hear about any of our dogs that you adopted.  If it was last week, last year or 10 years ago, please drop us an email and a photo.  This is NCCR's 18th year of "helping dogs adopt a human"!  We remember many of the dogs that pass through the doors; your notes, emails and photos help make it all worthwhile!     Little Spot was surrendered to NCCR on 3/31/17 when his  owner moved and was unable to take him along. He is a 7  year old male Chihuahua, and he only weighs about 6 pounds.   This  friendly, pocket-sized guy would likely prefer a quiet  home where he can relax.  Spot is currently in foster care,  an appointment will have to be made to meet him!    Pixie and Dolly   These sweet girls arrived at NCCR on April 15th, when their senior owner moved to a place where she was not allowed to bring dogs.    Dolly (mostly brown) is a senior female Chihuahua mix and Pixie (brown with white) is her daughter.  They are both housetrained.  As they have spent their lives together, a home where they can stay together would be ideal.  They have lived with cats.  Pixie and Dolly are currently in foster care.  They will be spayed soon and then will be all set for a new home.                     ALL CATS AT WSCR HAVE BEEN SPAYED/NEUTERED.  ALL CATS ARE UP-TO-DATE ON THEIR VACCINATIONS.  CALL 326-2404 TO SCHEDULE A VISIT WITH ANY OF THESE WONDERFUL CATS.     Dust Bunny: This girl is about 10 years old and shy, but with love and patience, she would blossom into a wonderful pet!         Allie is a beautiful white & gray DSH female cat who is very friendly and enjoys socializing with people.  She gets along with other cats, has had her shots & is spayed.       Annabelle is two years old and is a very soft, fluffy cat who loves to vocalize!  She enjoys playing with toys and chasing the other cats!     Diego is a very handsome fellow!  He is a black & gray tiger mix with white fur; Diego is 3 years old.  Diego has a great personality - he has all his vaccinations & is neutered.     Lily is a Dark colored Tortoiseshell & is about two and a half years old.  Lily enjoys running around the shelter & playing games with the other cats.           Rhett is a gorgeous buff & white colored cat - he is around 2 years old.  He likes to sit in the sunshine & is a very gentle boy.             There are 8 kittens at the Stray cat rescue!
