Janet Wahlberg to Give Presentation on “Navajo Code Talkers” iCal

Thursday, November 9 2017 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

In honor of National Native American Heritage Month, Anderson-Lee Library in Silver Creek will welcome Janet Wahlberg on Thursday November 9 at 6:30pm. Wahlberg, a retired Registered Nurse and volunteer at the Fenton History Center, will share with us her knowledge of how in early 1942, 29 young men from the Navajo Nation were enlisted for a project which became known as the “Navajo Code Talkers”. Wahlberg has had an avid interest in history since she was a child. Says Wahlberg, “my interest took a real leap when I attended the dedication of the WWII Memorial with my brother. When we arrived at the National Mall, the first person that I saw was a Native American Code Talker. He graciously chatted with me for 15 or 20 minutes. His name was Merril Sandoval.” This program is free and open to the public and appropriate for all ages. Registration is helpful for planning seating. Please call the library at 934-3468 or stop by 43 Main Street in Silver Creek to reserve your seat. Online registration is now available by visiting www.andersonleelibrary.org and scrolling to and then clicking on the flyer pertaining to this event.
