Bat Biology and Conservation iCal

Wednesday, July 19 2017 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

The Roger Tory Peterson Institute and the James Prendergast Library are partnering to present this opportunity to learn about bats with bat biologist Jonathan Townsend! The program will cover the various aspects of bat biology that make these creatures so unique among mammals, as well as summarize the issues facing the many bat species worldwide. Townsend’s presentation will also highlight our local bat species here in Western, NY as well as the scientific research and conservation efforts that are underway right here in Chautauqua County. After the presentation, Townsend will lead a “bat-walk” for interested participants to learn first-hand about the instruments that are used to detect and monitor bat activity in the field, and what kind of data bat researchers use to gain insights into the health of bat populations. This program is free and open to the public.
