Work with Refugee Population Topic of Sunday Worship iCal

Sunday, March 5 2017 11:00 AM - 11:00 PM

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua is pleased to announce the speaker for Sunday March 5.  Dr. Anna Ireland, Chief Officer of Jericho Road Community Health Center in Buffalo, NY will speak on Matthew 25:35, "For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” Dr. Ireland will reflect on her 14 years of working with Buffalo’s refugee populations and Jesus’ imperative to assist those in need.

A Peace Corp Volunteer, Dr. Ireland spent time in Swahili and began assisting refugees in 2003 when she became a case manager at Journey’s End Refugee Resettlement Service during the Somali Bantu resettlement program in Buffalo.  In addition, Ireland was the founding director of Hope Refugee Drop in Center, an organization that pioneered a quick response model to assist refugees that have been in the US longer than 90 days.

Dr. Ireland is a graduate of Houghton College and received her M.S. and PhD in Cultural Anthropology from SUNY Buffalo.

Childcare for those under the age of 5 will be provided as requested.  Please call the church’s voicemail, 679-7944, by Saturday at 5pm if childcare will be needed.
